dfw-sbs.com and dfw-sbs.org

I had registered these names some time ago – at least one year, though I forget exactly when I bought them now.  I had these set up on auto-renew with GoDaddy.com.  They just auto-renewed for 3 years (I had assumed they would go just renew for one year, since I thought that’s what I’d signed up for.)  Anyway, the bills for the domains were $32.88 and $33.39.  I have both of the domain names pointing at this blog for now.    If you can think of something better to do with them, let me know and we’ll talk about it.

Upcoming sessions

Before Kim took off on his latest adventure, he mentioned that he’s working on several presentations.  Here’s what I remember from the phone conversation last week.

  • StorageCraft – this is an OUTSTANDING company that makes backup software.  They’ve got an office in Dallas now and Kim’s been working with them to get them to present to the group.
  • SBS MVP Tour – I posted on this previously, so I’ll not say any more except that this is in the works.

I think there was another presentation, but I can’t remember what it was.  After I hear from Kim again, I’ll post it here.

If you’ve got suggestions or recommendations, please feel free to post them or email me at russell_clements at yahoo.com.

Tuesday’s Presentation by Larry Harbison

The meeting will go from 7pm to 9pm.    Larry Harbison will be demonstrating a software package that he uses for form design.   Here are some of the benefits as he’s listed them:

  • Reduces labor
  • fewer errors
  • audit trails
  • improves process efficiency and overall productivity
  • Data captured available for BI reports
  • Customized to exact requirements of client
  • Hand written or digital
  • Saves filing, lost documents, filing equipment & floor space
  • Always accessible in real time to all who need information when needed

Please keep in mind that this will be the first meeting at the new date and time.  There may be some glitches as we get things ironed out.  Your patience will be GREATLY appreciated.

New Date, New Time…

This was done to accommodate the schedule of our Microsoft host.  It has the added advantage of allowing our local SBS MVP, Eriq Neale, the opportunity to attend meetings.  If you’ve never met him, I think you’ll enjoy the opportunity to talk to him, as he’s a wealth of information.

The meetings are held at Microsoft’s Las Colinas offices at 7001 State Highway 161, Irving, TX.  Functionally, it’s at the intersection of 161 and MacArthur in Irving.  The meeting will start at 7:00pm, but I’m hoping our host will be available to open the doors at 6:30pm.  This is the first meeting we’ve had at this time and there may be some glitches.  Your patience will be appreciated.

We used to have pizza available for dinner, but I don’t think we’ll be able to work this out moving forward, so it would be a good idea to eat before you come.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

SBS MVP Tour

Several people have asked me about this, so I thought I’d let you know what’s going on with it.

Kim Trif and I have been in touch with Andy Goodman and we’re trying to get a date that will work for each of us.  We’re actively pursuing this opportunity and are hoping to host an event prior to the end of the year.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can check here:  http://mvptour2011.sbsmigration.com/

The event is in part hosted by SBSmigration.com, Jeff Middleton’s outstanding, wonderful company that offers products and services to alleviate a great deal of the hassle of migrating from previous versions of SBS to the current version.

As I understand it, the event will also include demonstrations of Home Server, MultiPoint Server and Small Business Server variants.  As more details become available, I’ll try to put them up here so that you can know what’s going on.

Dallas Fort Worth Small Business Server User’s Group

This is a group that is composed mostly of IT Professionals who have a business supporting IT infrastructure for small businesses, homes or remote offices. We’re not exclusive to Small Business Server, though. Home Server, MultiPoint Server, Windows 7, Vista, XP, Exchange, SharePoint, networking, VPNs and almost any other technology in use by these groups.

Meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Microsoft’s Las Colinas’ offices.  7001 State Highway 161, Irving, TX.  We’ll be starting at 7pm and will be done by 9pm.  We used to have pizza at these events, but it looks like moving forward that will not be available.  Please make sure you eat before you come or bring your own.
